Buying strangers

September 15, 2007

Flashing green lights

They never stop

Driving me insane

A man walked by

Without a face

Without a name

Tried to sell me something

Not sure what

Said it would be worth my while

About 35 dollars

I declined

I am not into buying strangers

Or anything from them

Went home to make some tea

Felt like a diamond with a tail

Blowing in the wind

Went for a walk

down a dingy alleyway

There stood a freezing devil

Decked out in rhinestone stilettos and a fishing net

(Some stones were missing)

She asked me if i needed some company

I’m not into buying strangers

Or anything from them

The frosty air was getting me down

Couldn’t say no

I took her home

Where we both got warm

I’m a man who gets what he pays for

Decided to be a John

Make her work for her money

Seemed like a decent girl

If I hadn’t seen through her

Same story since she started the business

(May be the oldest occupation but so was her unconvincing act)

Some bullshit sob story about her pathetic life

She lit up a cigarrette

Irritated i guess

Wanted in

Out

And the money

I made love to her

She was as cold as i found her though

I bought her she was mine

And she was the devil

The last time I read this poem it was still in the embryonic stage. Love it and I think you write much more comfortably in this style than with the moon-june-spoon set. Some lines sound like a seedier Leonard Cohen.
