Today I saw a robin

On the terracotta walk

It eyes were glazed

And its feathers splayed

I with much on mind

Stepped on it’s broken wing

As tears filled my eyes

In the middle of a busy street

Lay-ed down nose to beak

To sing the robin to sleep

I sang of trees and open fields

Of building nests and near by streams

I sang of clear blue sun painted skyies

As the robin closed it eyes

I cried

I gathered your little feathers

Placed your lifeless body in my hands

Your wing brushed the tears from my cheek

I carried you to a near by park

With wise trees and careful flowers

As I dug a hole deeper and deeper

My fingers felt the war

Nails chipped and polish flew

My jeans streaked green and brown

And the earth painted my brow

“It doesn’t matter little robin

All I care about is you.”

The handkerchief around my neck

I wrapped you snug and warm

And placed you in a bed of earth

To sheild you from further harm

Of childrens fingers

Or larger feet

Of clean up crews

And garbage heeps

As I tucked you in

Turned out the lights

I prayed for you

One day come back to me

And I will fly with you

swing and hit

grass flies

a tiny orb

slices through the air

in a perfect parabola

to gracefully land

on the dance floor

closer to it’s home

in the ground

gasps of air

through silent lips

the observers

hold their breath

waiting, watching

flag tossed aside

a single swing

the end

of the tiny orb

humble applause

You would be there

I would be here

Without dark corners

Tragedies?

 Yes

End of the world?

No

You and I

Would be lost in time

No music

To keep us together

The horizon to far

Beyond our reach

Let me lay my head

Upon your chest

For i love to hear

Your heart

I dream

Of the tiny dancer

That lives there

Swaying with the beat
